System Module Modifications

Before modifying any of the system files, do not forget to make a copy with the suffix .org (this will help to find modified files with a simple     find -name "*.org"     operation.


/usr/bin/startgnome

Add definition of user environment variables


/etc/X11/xinit/fixkeyboard

Unconditionally activate the user's .Xmodmap settings

If you establish a backup copy of the original file, e careful to \ clear the `execute' flags in this copy - executable files are automatically in included!

/etc/X11/xkb/symbols/us

Facilitate using non-US characters on a US keyboard (Euro symbol, compose key)


/sbin/hwclock

Allow using hwclock by application programs


/etc/fstab

Adapt to specific peripherals and partitions

It appears that the Mandrake 8.0 standard configuration tool produces a bad entry for the floppy disk: (/dev/sda instead of /dev/fd0)
